Leaps and Bounds is a center-based early intervention program that combines educational and therapeutic approaches to nurture the overall growth and development of children in preparation for preschool and community-based programs. This sensory and language-enriched therapy program is designed for children ages 18 months to three years who have been identified with developmental delays. The Leaps and Bounds' program design includes a social language-cognition group led by an early intervention teacher, as well as group occupational, physical and speech therapies. In addition, Leaps and Bounds' offers four developmental centers: sensory-motor, cognition, gross motor, and language/oral motor to provide opportunities for children to practice what they are learning in their group therapies. In an inclusive setting similar to most preschool classrooms, children participate in exploratory play based on the philosophy of Floortime, as well as opportunities for circle, snack, and share times.

Client Spotlight
Rodrigo & His Family
When Rodrigo was two years old, his mother Laura noticed his speech was delayed and that he wasn’t making eye contact like he used to. After a few visits to the pediatrician and an assessment at the regional center, Rodrigo was diagnosed with a speech delay and mild autism. Soon after Rodrigo enrolled in PTN’s Leaps & Bounds program for toddlers, his parents noticed the benefits of the multi-disciplinary program fairly quickly. Laura watched her son make more eye contact, follow directions and say “momma” and “dada.” According to Laura, the PTN staff are “angels in my eyes” for their caring and helpful approach. Now at 3 and half years old, Rodrigo speaks in short sentences, says hello to those around him and blesses his parents when they sneeze.
Staff Spotlight
Terry Emanuel
Terry Emanuel is the Lead Assistant in our early intervention Leaps & Bounds program and has been a member of the PTN family for 22 years! Terry grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa but has spent most of her life living locally in sunny Torrance. Terry enjoys every aspect of Leaps & Bounds and feels blessed to be in the program for over two decades. She loves working with toddlers, being a part of a families’ journey from the beginning, and watching children grow and achieve so many milestones. When asked to describe the PTN family, Terry shared, “It’s where God put a bunch of angels in one spot. Everyone has such heart and is here for all the same purpose - to help children and families.” In her free time, Terry enjoys spending time with her four-year-old granddaughter, walking at the beach, reading (she carries a book with her at all times), hanging out with friends, eating good food, and not wasting one minute of her life by taking any opportunity to have fun.

Pediatric Therapy Network also offers to our Leaps and Bounds families:

  • Home and community visits by our therapists and teachers to collaborate with families in order to ensure a developmentally enriched natural environment.
  • Stepping Out services which allow children to be supported by staff to community activities such as a neighborhood park, storytime, or toddler gymnastics classes.
  • Respite Rendezvous events are offered one Saturday or Sunday a month and help provide parents and guardians with time for themselves while their children are in a safe and fun environment. Siblings up to age 12 are welcome.

What our parents have to say about Respite Rendezvous:

“The kids really enjoyed their time with all of you. They’ve been talking about it ever since!"

“Thank you so much for allowing siblings to join in the fun and give us a break. This was my first break in 5 ½ years."

“It was a very fun evening for my kids and a very nice night out for Mom & Dad."

Respite Rendezvous also has benefited from the many volunteers from various organizations and schools that have contributed their time so generously to play and enjoy an evening with some of PTN’s youngest clients.
