The Social Skills and Community Integration department has several programs including Buddy Club, Buddy Builders, and a teen based group called My Place. The programs focus on helping children find a place where they belong and can learn to engage in age-appropriate social skills such as personal space, conversation skills, problem solving, body language, sportsmanship, and more.

Volunteer activities within the social skills department includes but are not limited to the following: 

  • Supporting group staff including occupational therapists by modeling appropriate social behaviors
  • Playing with and helping the children engage with each other
  • Helping set-up and clean-up activities or prep crafts
  • Helping ensure safety in the community

Volunteer Requirements: Must have a strong interest in working with children in a social atmosphere, be available to attend an orientation prior to volunteering, and must be available for the time frames and time commitments listed below. 

Minimum Time Commitment: 3 month minimum commitment from volunteers

Days of the Week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 3:45 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.

Age Requirement: 16 and over

Volunteer Locations: The groups alternate locations between our Clubhouse and a site in the community.

Qualification Requirements: Placement requires proof of a negative TB test and a 30-minute orientation to the department.
